The holiday cottage "Il Rifugio", is situated within the fortified village of Vertine, a charming medieval hamlet which has preserved its character of fortress. Its origins can be dated back to 977 A.D. when countess Wilma, mother of the marquess Ugo di Toscana, bequeathed to the Florentine Badia di Marturi part of a property situated "in loco et finibus ubi dicitur Monte Milinaio propo Vertinulae". The painting of "Madonna della Misericordia", originates from Vertine, and it is the most important painting of the entire Chianti.
