From its original situation on top of its verdant hill, Bibbiena spread rapidly down over the slopes and now its industries and commercial activities make it the most important town in the Casentino.
It was once an ancient Etruscan centre, originally named "Vipena", and became a fief of the Bishops of Arezzo. The 16th century Palazzo Dovizi is conspicuous among a number of stately mansions that grace the town.
At Bibbiena there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, agriturismos, residence self-catering accommodation, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
